As long as I can remember, I have expressed myself creatively through images and words. Whether it be photography, painting, drawing, or writing, my imagination has been overactive in trying to capture my thoughts and opinions in an interesting & visual way.
I am passionate about what I believe, and through my writing, I hope to convey ideas that disturb and provoke while making a point.
My stories are told from the perspective of a killer, a psycho, a loner; those disconnected from society & usually suffering through all the realism of life, loss & addiction. I am influenced by writers like Chuck Palahniuk, Kurt Vonnegut, & Douglas Coupland, but also screenwriters like Charlie Kaufman, Robert Rodriguez, & Sam Raimi, among others. Writers who tell a vivid story, who phrase their thoughts and observations poetically, uniquely, and with plenty of humor.
My stories and poems generally focus on negative or dark imagery; I am sadistic and fascinated with the way death plays into our lives. There are many different levels of death; the death or loss of free will, the death of a relationship, of humanity, and of course the physical death of a person. I am interested in focusing on how death affects the living, on the way they live. Humanity's natural instinct is to survive as long as we can, avoiding the inevitable. What interests me is what happens when we are faced with it, when we must kill or be killed.
One big influence for me is horror, and the evocation of a horrifying setting. One of my favorite filmmakers is Tim Burton, because of the whimsical darkness he brings to films such as Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Beetlejuice. Another filmmaker I greatly appreciate is Quentin Tarantino for films such as Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs and Inglourious Basterds, as well as his Grindhouse film, Death Proof. While these films aren't specifically considered horror, they bring blood, gore and death to the forefront as a realistic part of life. I enjoy these concepts in film, and when I write, I visualize similar scenes for my stories.
